Write a paragraph describing westward migration that integrates the information you learned from the map, text, chart and photograph.
Answer:People moved west for many reasons. Some were farmers looking for fertile land, others were missionaries who wanted to bring Christianity to the Native Americans, and others hoped to get rich from the California gold rush or by starting businesses to sell goods to the gold miners. African Americans migrated west for freedom from slavery. Many of the people believed in manifest destiny. The government must have believed in manifest destiny because it kept adding land to the United States by buying it or gaining it through treaties. By 1853, the United States included the area that makes up the 48 states of the United States today. One of the ways people traveled west was by wagon. This was a dangerous trip because accidents could happen. Because it was a shorter distance, the midwest population grew faster than the population in the west.
