Answer: Yousafzai is speaking from the perspective of a Muslim, and may want to announce to the audience that her parents supported her truth while speaking – the one “true message of Islam.” She was also speaking as a young female seeking to educate other young girls, which is a controversial mission in many Muslim societies. While some Islamic communities welcome progress for girls and women, others prefer more traditional roles for women that deny females an education. Yousafzai may have been reminding her worldwide audience that the basic pillars of Islam include truth and honesty, instead of the violence she was crusading to end.

In the final passage of the excerpt from Yousafzai’s speech, she states that, “We are living in the modern age and we believe that nothing is impossible.” How did her perspective and past experiences influence this opinion?
Answer: Yousafzai is speaking from the perspective of a teenager and young adult that has spent her teenage life crusading for educational rights. Her belief that “anything is possible” reflects her upbringing in a family that fought back against cultural and political restrictions in Pakistan to start schools for young girls. Her belief also reflects her personal experience of her incredible survival. Therefore, she has the opinion that the time has come for change and progress for females.

Yousafzai chose to include an event that highlights the ability of humans to progress. By including this fact she reminded her audience that progress for women’s education was possible. Which momentous event does she use to show that even the most challenging goals are possible?
Answer:Yousafzai compares the challenge of increasing women’s rights and education to reaching the moon and possibly landing on the planet Mars in the near future.
